eGenesis, a biotechnology company developing human-compatible engineered organs, appointed Daniel Leblanc Chief Manufacturing and Supply Officer.

What eGenesis Does

The company, headquartered in Cambridge, Mass., aims to develop these organs to address what it calls a global organ shortage. Currently, eGenesis is advancing its lead product, EGEN-2784, a genetically engineered porcine kidney for patients with kidney failure.

Leblanc preceded his eGenesis appointment by serving as Chief Technology Officer at Ensoma. He previously held senior leadership positions at Flexion Therapeutics. The most recent of these was Senior Vice President of Chemistry, Manufacturing, and Controls (CMC) Operations.

Earlier in his career, Leblanc held CMC and manufacturing leadership positions at Merck Serono and Alkermes.

Overall, he brings more than 25 years of global biopharmaceutical industry experience to his new position and company.

Manufacturing and Supply Expertise Needed

“Dan brings extensive expertise in manufacturing and operational strategy for innovative therapies,” eGenesis President and CEO Mike Curtis, PhD, said. “His leadership will be instrumental as we advance our clinical programs and prepare for future commercialization … We [will] continue to build the infrastructure necessary to bring genetically engineered organs to patients in need.”

“eGenesis is at the forefront of the treatment of organ failure,” Leblanc said. “I am excited to join the company at such an important stage in its development. The progress eGenesis has made in advancing genetically engineered organs into the clinic underscores the tremendous potential of this technology. I look forward to working with the team to further strengthen manufacturing capabilities, establish scalable operations, and support [their] mission.”

To date, the United States FDA has cleared eGenesis to conduct clinical studies across its kidney and liver programs.
